I should have named her Champ, and would have if I would have known what I had, before I gave her the name of Jo. With the help of an older gentleman I had met one day out in the marsh, Jo has exceeded all expectations of an upland bird dog. 12 rooster pheasants killed over her at age 1, and probably half that many missed. She busted coveys of quail and numerous ruffed grouse flushed. A dog willing to please, she has become my little "sweetie" as Bill Schaller has referred to her as. As far as Bill is concerned, a fine man second to none and full of information if you but ask him. It's plain to see what these dogs mean to him and his wife. They are wonderful people. One last comment, as far as Jo is concerned "off the field", gentle, protective when needed, and a little stinker that makes you laugh from time to time. My wife just loves her and has told me, "if anything happens to Jo, don't bother coming home." |

Bill - Tanner is wonderfil. I took him out the last week of Dec ( I know he was too young but there were so many birds) he found his first rooster in two minutes and found 50 more that day. I lost him in 320 acres for awaile because there were so many birds and he got out ahead but I found him thank god! Do you think I should go for a shock collar he is so sweet I hate to do that? He has not been nuetuered and is next tto me every minute I am home. My retirement date is may 1st he is the smartest dog we have ever had. Thanks - Rick |

Hi Bill
I really have to apologize for taking so long to write back to you. Things have been pretty hectic around here. First off, the dog (we call him Tag) is great. He's smart, wants to please, and is already working hard on his retrieves. Just got some pictures back from being developed and will send them along to you. He comes down to school with us most days and we are hoping that he will be able to be out with the nursery school kids in the future. We just finished up all his shots last weekend. He weighs about 17.5 lbs. now. Please tell Luke that he is a keen dog.
I want to thank you again for your hospitality when we came to Wisconsin . When we tell people how far we traveled to get Tag, they think we're a little crazy but we couldn't have asked for a better dog (or breeder). Laura and I had a great time. I keep thinking about how I can get some time and come back with Tag to do some hunting.
Summer camp started at my school last week, so in addition to the nursery schoolers, I have 45 alumni back for day camp. We're headed up the coast for camping with them this week. I'm taking Tag with me - we'll see how he does.
Again, thanks for everything and I will try to do a better job of staying in touch.

We got Fenway from Bill a little over a year and a half ago. At first I was a bit nervous buying from a breeder that I hadn?t met yet, but Bill quickly quashed any reservations we had. His knowledge and love of his pups was obvious from our first call (he got on the floor to play with our little lady) and I instantly knew his dogs were raised in a loving home. He put us in touch with a previous buyer who happened to live in our area of California , and he confirmed the Schallers to be great people who had amazing dogs.
Fenway has been an absolute dream. She is smart, alert and agile. We do agility with her and she constantly amazes us by the speed in which she picks up commands. In fact we feel we are holding her back from doing agility at a competitive level, as she seems to be picking it up faster than us. She is playful, loves to be with people and to please. Beyond this, she is an easy going dog and enjoys relaxing around the house. With her bright expression, intense awareness to the world around her, and merry nature Fenway is a great cocker and wonderful companion.
This has been a great experience and we would do it all again in a heartbeat.

I just wanted to let you know how Sallie was doing. She was re-named "Hattie". She is a wonderful puppy. She didn't mind going into her kennel/cage after the first night. No barking or whining. She seems to be very smart. She is already retrieving a pheasant wing inside a sock out in the yard. If she doesn't see the sock land, she will continue looking until she finds it, very surprising for such a young dog. She is just about house broken. She is very affectionate and is very easy to have in the house and live with.
Thanks for raising such great dogs,

Bill,
The pups are doing great. Both are spoiled rotten and loving it. They are crazy about retrieving. They play fetch non-stop. Duchess was out yesterday for a training session and she did awesome. She is sitting on both command and whistle. She worked some quail like she has been doing it for years. One quail was running on her and she tracked to a bush and got right in there and flushed it out. She marked it and went and put it up again.
Buddy is the same way. He is with use for a few weeks while Bill and his wife are out of town. So he is going to get started on his training.
By breeding their parents you are make the English Cocker breed a better one. Be sure to let me know if you breed again. I will keep you posted on there progress. Paul is taking Duchess to the vet this week. I will let you know.
Thank you,
Tonia (6/19/05)

UPDATE:
Bill,
Both of the pups are great. Duchess had around a 800 birds shot over this past dove and quail season. She hunted pheasant, chuckar and quail, flushed and retrieved everything without fail. They both work with pointing dogs..they point and she/he flushed and retrieved. Buddy also had a lot of birds shot over him. He is a great dove pheasant and quail dog. They both have wonderful temperaments and they both are family dogs.
I will let people know about your next litter.

It is hard to believe that" Cassey " our English Cocker Spaniel has been in our household already two months. In the past years we have owned many dogs from big ones to little ones, from hunters to non hunters, put this one tops them all. From the day we brought her home she has been one great dog in the house and outside. House breaking of this dog was a dream and it all goes back to the loving care and training you did when she was a little pup. She is one dog that loves attention and is right there to watch TV with us on the couch, however mention lets go outside and there she is at the door ready to chase all the birds in the yard and catch as many butterflies as she can. I cannot wait until fall to see how she does on pheasants and grouse. Have started some of the basics on training and she seems to be picking it up as we go along.
We have four grandchildren and the dog can't wait until they come, she is just great with young kids and they have a ball playing with her.
That is all for now, will keep you updated as time goes on.
Sincerely:
Faith and Tom Weix |

Hi Bill and Duke & Brandy! 2007
Got your message on the phone and was going to cal you back but I decided to write you a letter and send you some pictures of my little girl. Lady is definitely a hunter. Where we live we have 30 acres and all around our house we have smaller pine trees. Lady goes from tree to tree getting baby birds out of their nest. She is constantly bringing me little presents on my front door step – like birds, mice, and bones from other animals. Lady loves butterflies, sometimes watching her chase a butterfly, I think , she thinks, she can fly!
Lady sleeps with me and my husband and is my alarm. When it gets close to the alarm going off, Lady is already giving me kisses, licking me, and jumping on me. Lady gets plenty of exercise. Everyday I hop on my 4 wheeler and take the dogs around our land so the dogs can run. We have a woods in the back and Max (her big brother) kick up rabbits and chase them. We also have a little woods kind of next to our house where there is raccoons and woodchucks. Whenever we can’t find Lady that’s were she is. Up north ( Phillips, WI) we have a cabin on the lake ( Musser Lake). Lady loves to swim. We can not keep her out of the water. Last time we where up north there was a family of geese in the water. Papa, Mama, and 12 babies – Lady jumps in the water and chases them. Of course the Papa & Mama wasn’t very happy about that and let Lady knows who’s boss. We have a couple of red squirrel families in the trees. Lady knows what trees there in. She will sit by the tree and wait patiently for the babies to come out. Lady has come close to getting a baby squirrel but hasn’t got one yet. On our shoreline, there are a lot of frogs. She spends a lot of time catching them.
As you can see Lady is a very busy girl. At nite when I finally get to relax, my little girl is setting right beside me. Lady is a great little snuggler!
When our family gets together there are 4 children and 6 dogs. Lady is in 7 th Heaven, somebody to play with.
Jim and I are so happy to have Lady in our life. She is everything we wanted in a dog. I hope you enjoy the pictures and the fact that Lady is doing fine and very much loved! Will keep you updated on Lady and thanks for calling and checking up on her.
Sincerely
Diane Kennedy...and my little girl Lady

I could write pages about my puppy from Mr. Schaller, but I will be brief. Jetta as we call her is everything we hoped for and so much more. My four children adore her, and my wife (not a dog person) loves her like her fifth child. I am pretty fond of her as well, and each time I hunt or train her she finds a new way to impress me. She is extremely intelligent, and eager to learn. She hunts close, and I enjoy watching her work. She can trail a runner like a pro already (she is 14 mos.), and she never misses a retrieve!
As for Bill, he genuinely loves his dogs, and is always an E-mail or phone call away for advice, or just to share a hunting story. I would
certainly recommend Schaller's English Cockers to anyone who wants a dog that is just as at home in your lap as in the field!

Note: Mike is the top trainer out East. We got Brandy through him. Martin is probably the top trainer in the country. We got Betty from him. Both of these gentlemen are from UK and learned their dog skills from the top trainers in the UK . |
